My house smells of apples....

Image
Last 2 visits to the community shop came up trumps for me, lots of fruit and veg as well as enough meat and bacon for a a good few meals. People were complaining as the bags were light and they weren't allowed double orders but they have to cater for everyone and if this week there is only enough for a little for everyone then so be it!  I also picked up a bag of bramley apples in the Oasis centre for 50p so we have apple cakes and apple sauce with some rather flavourless pears out of todays shop. There was a little snack pot of pineapple so made an upside down cake.  Still have a lot of these beautys and Im looking forward to a BLT in the morning. I may try chutney when I find a nice recipe.

Successful summer.

I didn't enjoy the heat this summer but my garden did. The apple trees are heavy with fruit and the recent rain has turned them russet.  The greenhouse  Came up trumps too with triffid like squash plants. The squashes taste amazing.  Tomatoes are growing in pots all round the garden but not many Turning red so have popped them in a paper bag with a banana.   A passing bird must have dropped a blackberry at some point as I have a huge bramble growing right down the garden. Undecided to pick the fruit off it before removing as much as possible of the plant. Not really ideal having this prickly interloper.  Very happy with it all this year. Already frozen huge amount of redcurrants and a few raspberries for my bumblefruit jam - pinched the name lol.

Renovating my spaces

I decided recently, to devote more time to making nice things for me. I have never really done that before but often tell people to be good to yourself - time I took my own advice. I spent a couple of weeks exhausted beyond belief, no energy, no mojo and generally ill. After much devouring of vitamins and drinking gallons of water I perked up a little. This is when I made my decision to turn things around and its working. I also started a crochet throw for my bed in vintage colours and that's something I am dipping into whilst paper piecing. Its time I gave the house and garden  a bit of a boost too. They are all looking dreary. So I threaded beads onto string and hung them around the shed to catch the light and put out all the garden ornaments Jenni bought me. Next I need to paint up some plant pots for the flowers I am growing. My bedroom is quite prettily decorated but has been the same for 8 years so I think a spot of furniture painting is in my future. Some new ar

We have a community shop on a Friday now at the local community centre. You get approximately £12.50 worth of food for £2.50. this last week's load. You get 4 items from store cupboard staples, 2 from the fridge, 1 from the freezer and a choice of cereals and random stuff. On the way out you can pick as much cake, bread fruit and veg as you like. I quite like the process including the tea and toast while you wait. It's certainly helping fill up my low supplies and coming in useful. Tonight I made chilli and had no kidney beans but had a tin of butter beans so pleased with the swop. Looking forward to tomorrow's visit.

Using up the stash.

I have a huge amount of embroidery threads so recently started some little cross stitch pictures. I found it quite calming but got a little engrossed. With Pinterest having soooo many free charts it would have been rude not to carry on. I also did a few rather nice lighthouse charts but they need a good press. I will now be haunting charity shops for small frames. Picked up 2 today for £1.49.

Birthday boy.

Our little man is 8 today and was bursting with excitement all last night. Mummy took him too his favourite place - Blackpool for a few hours so he could go on a few rides and play on the beach. I'm just hoping they save me cake!

It's about time....

I'm a bad blogger, full of good intentions. Hopefully I can start posting regularly. It's garden time and my wee pear tree us full of blossom and promise.  This is its third year so let's hope it's a good year. I finally put my new greenhouse up, 2 years late but better now than never.
