Renovating my spaces

I decided recently, to devote more time to making nice things for me. I have never really done that before but often tell people to be good to yourself - time I took my own advice. I spent a couple of weeks exhausted beyond belief, no energy, no mojo and generally ill. After much devouring of vitamins and drinking gallons of water I perked up a little. This is when I made my decision to turn things around and its working. I also started a crochet throw for my bed in vintage colours and that's something I am dipping into whilst paper piecing. Its time I gave the house and garden  a bit of a boost too. They are all looking dreary. So I threaded beads onto string and hung them around the shed to catch the light and put out all the garden ornaments Jenni bought me. Next I need to paint up some plant pots for the flowers I am growing. My bedroom is quite prettily decorated but has been the same for 8 years so I think a spot of furniture painting is in my future. Some new ar...

We have a community shop on a Friday now at the local community centre. You get approximately £12.50 worth of food for £2.50. this last week's load. You get 4 items from store cupboard staples, 2 from the fridge, 1 from the freezer and a choice of cereals and random stuff. On the way out you can pick as much cake, bread fruit and veg as you like. I quite like the process including the tea and toast while you wait. It's certainly helping fill up my low supplies and coming in useful. Tonight I made chilli and had no kidney beans but had a tin of butter beans so pleased with the swop. Looking forward to tomorrow's visit.

Using up the stash.

I have a huge amount of embroidery threads so recently started some little cross stitch pictures. I found it quite calming but got a little engrossed. With Pinterest having soooo many free charts it would have been rude not to carry on. I also did a few rather nice lighthouse charts but they need a good press. I will now be haunting charity shops for small frames. Picked up 2 today for £1.49.

Birthday boy.

Our little man is 8 today and was bursting with excitement all last night. Mummy took him too his favourite place - Blackpool for a few hours so he could go on a few rides and play on the beach. I'm just hoping they save me cake!

It's about time....

I'm a bad blogger, full of good intentions. Hopefully I can start posting regularly. It's garden time and my wee pear tree us full of blossom and promise.  This is its third year so let's hope it's a good year. I finally put my new greenhouse up, 2 years late but better now than never.

My New Favourite Place

This oasis of calm is Michaels new school. A specialist autism school 5 minutes from our house. I think they built it with him in mind. His previous school was wonderful but it was decided he needed a special place more attuned to his needs. Jenni and Ant fought long and hard to get him a place and it turned out the education committee failed to notify them that there was a place in September. During a meeting about the boy a very embarrassed representative of the committee was put on the spot about it and he started part  time 2 days later. It was apparent after a week that he had found his niche and last week he finally went full time. The difference in him is amazing, he is trying new things everyday from foods to situations. He is making decisions that were previously impossible and the set in stone arrangements for him staying with us are now being changed by him. After 6 years I am now able to have weekends off and do those things that only occur on a Saturda...

Rainy Saturday

I have a weekend off as Michael decided to change thins around and stayed last night instead of tonight. John dropped me at the chemist - which was shut!!- so I walked to the shops while he drove Jenni and the kids to the shops to meet her friend for coffee. 10 minutes later my phone rang - 'the clutch is playing up on the car - AA duly dispatched a very nice man and I walked back to Jennis in the pouring rain. Luckily I only had a little bit of shopping as I only got as far as the Asian supermarket. Half an hour later the nice AA man followed us home and we booked the car in for Monday, its nothing major...phew I am now spending my weekend off wrapped in a cosy blanket and practising 'Hygge'. Baked potatoes and chicken in the oven which will warm the house and dry my coat when it comes out of the washer. Picked up this big bag of Biriyani spices for £1.99. They need crushing in the pestle but will lasta long time. When you think a little bottle of spices at the s...
